The Coalition of Haitian Civil Society Organizations, which brings together a dozen associations, has proposed the appointment of a transitional government with eleven members and an advisory council of 21 others, as well as a president of the Court of Cassation, before elections are held.

In a two-page document, the social representatives state that politicians should stay out of this governing body «to allow civil society to lead the country towards good elections».

The president of the Bar Association of Gonaïves, the city where they have gathered, Jaccene Jacques has assured in declarations to Radio France International (RFI) that their proposal responds to the «incapacity of the politicians».

«They are driven by their petty interests. They do not see the interest of the community, which is that Haiti must be saved. That is why the initiative comes from civil society, not political parties. In 1990, when the country was in a difficult situation, it was with the Court of Cassation that we found the solution», he defended.

In the text, they also set a deadline of two years in which the interim government should focus on installing a provisional electoral council, strengthen the national police and the Haitian army to restore security in the country, and then organize a referendum and the electoral appointment.

Haiti is going through a crisis situation. Since the assassination of the president, Jovenel Moise, on July 7, 2021, the always convulsive political and economic situation in Haiti has been further shaken. Soon the power vacuum degenerated into a security crisis, with murders and kidnappings on a daily basis, especially in large parts of the capital.
