Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has reported the seizure of 2,355 kilograms of cocaine in Tapachula, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas.
The operation is the result of the FGR’s collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense in what could be the largest drug seizure in recent years, reports Mexican newspaper ‘La Jornada’.
A Specialized District Judge in the Accusatory Criminal Justice System has issued a search warrant that led to the seizure of 2,014 packages of cocaine in a property in the Laureles neighborhood of the municipality of Tapachula, a region controlled by the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation (CJNG), according to the federal government.
The registration request was processed «after defense agents observed a long gun between the legs of a driver approaching a vehicle. Upon noticing it, he accelerated until he caught up with the vehicle on the aforementioned property and then fled.
«When the driver left the gate open, the military forces noticed square-shaped packages containing narcotics in the back seat of the vehicle and also observed that there were several packages inside the property, so they requested the presence of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF),» said the authorities.
During the intervention at the house, members of the Federal Ministerial Police, the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) and photographic and forensic chemistry experts, in coordination with military personnel, seized the cocaine packages. In addition, they found a shotgun, seven useful cartridges, four emplacement machines and two vehicles.
The drugs, the property and the rest of the seized goods have been handed over to the MPF, which has initiated the corresponding investigations.
