The former president of Russia and current vice president of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, has accused Western powers of pushing the world towards a «global war» that can only be avoided with a Russian victory in the conflict in Ukraine.
«Let’s call a spade a spade. Western countries are pushing the world to a global war, and only Russia’s complete and final victory is a guarantee against global conflict,» Medvedev has asserted on his Telegram channel.
The former Russian president pointed out that the argument defended by the West that «Russia cannot be allowed to win the war» entails supporting Ukraine’s theories about the full recovery of its territories, which would «threaten the existence» of Russia.
«The Kiev regime has mentioned Ukraine’s goal in the war: the return of all the territories that previously belonged to them (…) This is a threat to the existence of our state and the collapse of today’s Russia,» he said.
According to Medvedev, these threats to Russia would be a justification to be able to apply Article 19 of the Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation, which delves into Russia’s nuclear capabilities as a deterrent to threats to its sovereignty.
