Ukrainian authorities have called on the G20 to withdraw its invitation to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin for the upcoming summit and expel the country over attacks on the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure.
«Putin publicly acknowledged ordering missile attacks against Ukrainian civilians and energy infrastructure. With blood on his hands, he should not be allowed to sit at the table with world leaders,» Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said.
Thus, the Ukrainian representative has launched a publication on his profile on the social network Twitter where he has asked to «revoke» the invitation to the Russian leader to a summit which, however, Moscow has not confirmed that Putin will attend despite being invited.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly stated that the summit, scheduled for November in Indonesia, will have Russian representation, although the «format» of intervention has not yet been defined.
The interest of this meeting, to be held on November 15 and 16, lies mainly in the possible face-to-face meeting between Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, who assured that Kiev’s participation will depend on the situation his country is going through.
