Ukrainian authorities announced Thursday that both the capital, Kiev, and nine other regions will suffer scheduled power cuts today, in line with a program of restrictions following attacks in recent weeks by Russian forces on power stations in the European country.

The Ukrenergo power company has indicated that it has given distribution network operators «limited power supply volumes» that will affect Kiev, Chernigov, Cherkasi, Yitomir, Sumi, Kharkov and Poltava — where there are blackout schedules — as well as Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporiyia and Kirovohrad, where there are «emergency blackout schedules.»

«In this format, it is the responsibility of the local operator of distribution networks to give information about the blackout situation in streets or districts. We remind that consumption restrictions are necessary to reduce the load on the networks, ensure a sustainable balance of the power system and prevent accidents following the damage to power networks by missile and drone attacks by Russia,» he argued.

Thus, Ukrenergo stressed in his message via Telegram that «these measures allow energy companies to restore damaged energy facilities as soon as possible, balance the system and provide energy to all consumers».

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski assured on Tuesday that his government will do everything possible to supply electricity and heating to the cities, while recalling that Russia «will do everything possible» to prevent it. «We will do everything possible to give people electricity and heating this winter. But we must understand that Russia will do everything possible to destroy the normality of life,» he said.

On the other hand, he assured that the government is carrying out restoration works continuously and without interruption, also in the territories «liberated from the occupants», while accusing Russia of taking into account «spending on energy terror», assuring that with the attacks perpetrated by Russia on Monday on Ukrainian territory the monthly pensions of more than two million Russians could have been paid.
