G7 condemns North Korea’s challenges, warns of «forceful» response in case of nuclear test

The G7 countries have condemned the «unprecedented» missile launches ordered in recent days by the North Korean regime and warned that, should it conduct a new nuclear test, there will be a «swift, united and forceful» response from the international community.

For these powers, the latest ballistic missile launches demonstrate North Korea’s «continuous efforts» to «expand its military capabilities» and represent a «flagrant violation» of UN Security Council resolutions.

The G7, meeting in Germany at the level of foreign ministers, has again called on Pyongyang to halt its weapons and nuclear program and to put an «immediate» end to what they consider to be «destabilizing activity». In his note, he recalled the ballistic missile that «recklessly» flew over Japan on October 4.

«We urge North Korea to cease any escalation and engage in meaningful diplomacy over its illegal nuclear and ballistic programs. We are committed to working with all relevant partners to achieve permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula,» reads the communiqué released at the conclusion of the meeting.

In it, the powers also regretted that Kim Jong Un’s regime has put its arms ambitions «before the welfare of its own people», while they remain «deeply concerned» about the humanitarian situation in the secretive Asian country, about which there is little unofficial information.
