The social network Twitter sent an email to its employees on Thursday night notifying them that a drastic reduction in the workforce of the company, which currently employs 7,500 people, will begin on Friday morning.

According to the newspaper ‘The Washington Post’, the company recently acquired by tycoon Elon Musk will notify its employees at 9.00 local time (17.00 Spanish peninsular time) whether or not to continue in the company.

Specifically, those who keep their jobs will be notified in the company’s email, while those who lose their jobs will receive the information of their dismissal through their personal email.

Until then, Twitter has temporarily closed its offices and suspended access to ID badges «to help ensure the security of each employee, as well as Twitter’s systems and customer data.»

«Team, in an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday,» wields the notice sent to Twitter workers.

«We recognize that this will affect a number of people who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but unfortunately this action is necessary to ensure the company’s future success,» it adds, as reported by the newspaper.

This is the first official communication from the company to its employees since Elon Musk bought the company on October 28, after which, dozens of Twitter workers have shared on the social network a blue heart as a sign of farewell.

The billionaire plans to eliminate half of Twitter’s workforce, thus complying with plans to cut the costs of the social media platform he acquired for 44 billion dollars (a similar figure in euros), according to experts consulted by Bloomberg.
