The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, has ruled out opening new negotiation channels with the European Union to receive 35 billion euros in aid for the pandemic, paralyzed by the conflict with Brussels over the judicial reform process in the country.
«It seems to me that any further attempts to please the other side will not work,» Duda said in an interview with the magazine ‘Sezi’, which will be published in full on Monday.
«It seems to me that this country has already shown too much goodwill,» the president added in excerpts published by the Wpolityce portal.
On the EU’s doubts about the scope of the judicial reform, Duda insists that, «as far as he is aware», Poland has responded to all the conditions and the government wants to make in the coming weeks the formal request for funds.
The money is of crucial importance to the Polish government, which is ramping up borrowing costs amid a tight election race for next year’s October elections.
