The Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Simeón Oyono Esono Angüé, has denounced that diplomatic agents of the embassies of Spain, the United States and France are committing acts of «electoral interference» by participating in electoral rallies of opposition political parties in the run-up to the general elections of November 20.

The Minister, in an official communiqué, has also announced that, for this reason, he summoned last Saturday in protest Alfonso Barnuevo, David Gilmour and Laurent Polonceaux, ambassadors respectively of Spain, the United States and France.

At the respective meetings, the Minister conveyed to them «the displeasure of his government» and exhorted them to «avoid in the future this type of action», in the interest of respecting both the principles of International Law and the other postulates of the United Nations Charter.

«In the midst of the electoral confrontation, we do not understand the presence of diplomatic agents of these countries at political party rallies, which we consider once again as interference,» Oyono Esono Angüé stressed.

The minister recalls that he already warned the heads of the different diplomatic missions of the country last September 28 in a joint meeting to avoid «any kind of interference in the internal affairs of Equatorial Guinea in the course of the current electoral process» because «clear accounts preserve friendship», according to the official statement, published on his Twitter account.
