U.S. President Joe Biden has had a telephone conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on his victory in the November 1 elections.
Sources from Netanyahu’s Likud party have informed the Israeli press of the call, in which Biden reiterated his government’s «unquestionable» support for Israel.
Netanyahu, for his part, affirmed that together they can «bring about more historic peace agreements» and stressed that the relationship between the United States and Israel is «as strong as ever».
Netanyahu’s pro-Netanyahu parties won 65 of the 120 seats in the Knesset or Israeli Parliament in the November 1 elections and everything points to the formation of a new government this week with the support of extreme right-wing religious parties such as Shas, United Torah Judaism or Religious Zionism.
American sources have, however, discreetly expressed their concern about the possible inclusion in the Executive of the Otzma Yehudit party, Jewish Power, and its leader, Itamar Ben Gvir, located at the most radical end of the political spectrum of the Israeli right, as indicated by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
