The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on Monday reported the arrest of a blogger for allegedly providing information to the Russian authorities about the consequences of the shelling in the Zaporiyia region, for which he could face up to twelve years in prison on a treason charge.
«Cyber specialists of the Security Service exposed another enemy accomplice in the frontline areas in southern Ukraine. It turned out to be a blogger from Zaporiyia who gave the assailant information about the consequences of Russian missile strikes in the city,» the SBU report says.
Among the recipients of this information was also blogger Anatoli Shari, who after being arrested in Spain in May this year is awaiting a decision on his possible extradition to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian authorities claim that the latter blogger created an Internet page on which he published audiovisual materials, such as photographs and videos with his own descriptions of the events. The material was then collected by the Russian services.
The content of this audio-visual material has been considered by the Ukrainian authorities as «destructive» for national interests after it was used to defend Russia’s non-participation in the shelling of the Zaporiyia region almost since the beginning of the invasion at the end of February.
Now the detainee faces a prison sentence of up to twelve years for a crime of disseminating information favorable to Russia, as well as military affairs, according to Ukrainian legislation under martial law.
