At least five people have died and three have been injured as a result of new clashes in Ecuador’s El Incando prison, north of Quito, according to the country’s authorities.
The National Service of Integral Attention to Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) has detailed that a confrontation between the gangs ‘Lobos’ and ‘Netas’ have led security forces to activate security protocols, although they have not prevented the death of five people, according to a letter released by the agency.
«As a result of these clashes between inmates, five prisoners died and three were injured, who received care from a team of paramedics,» the SNAI said in its statement.
Likewise, several agents of the Penitentiary Security and Surveillance Corps have been beaten while trying to pacify the incidents.
However, the SNAI said that responsibilities will be determined while «the corresponding processes» are being followed, all this at a time when the government is immersed in police operations to put an end to «the organized crime mafias» that «terrorize» the country.
