Minister of State without portfolio Gavin Williamson, who is part of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Executive, resigned from his post on Tuesday following a complaint against him for alleged harassment and intimidation of a civil servant.
The complaint was made public on Monday. A former senior civil servant claimed that when Williamson was defense minister (2017-2019) he told him to «cut his throat» and thus filed a formal complaint against him, going so far as to claim that these words have had «an extreme impact» on his mental health, as reported by Sky News.
In his resignation letter, published on his Twitter profile, Williamson has refuted how his «past conduct» has been characterized, although he has defended his resignation by assuring that these accusations were becoming a distraction for the Government.
For her part, her former deputy director Anne Milton, who worked closely with Williamson, has claimed that she used her «influence» and threats to control several MPs and instill a culture of fear in Westminster.
