The Minister of Justice of Moldova, Sergiu Litvinenco, said Tuesday that he has filed a request with the Constitutional Court to outlaw the opposition party Socio-Political Republican Equality Movement (Sor), the main promoter of anti-government demonstrations.

For Litvinenco there are «sufficient legal grounds» to declare that the formation is unconstitutional, for which he has confirmed that he is preparing an «interpellation to the Constitutional». «I believe that there are enough legal grounds to ban the party», he said, according to information from the newspaper ‘Moldova Suverana’.

Thus, he appealed to Article 41 of the Constitution of the country, according to which the parties that militate against political pluralism, the principles of the rule of law, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country are unconstitutional.

In this sense, he accused the members of the opposition formation of trying to destabilize the country at a crucial moment at international level due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He also stressed that the party has «illegitimate» financing and promotes the interests of foreign countries.

The Moldovan opposition has organized protests against the government because of the energy crisis in the country. The demonstrators have pointed to the drastic increase in the prices of food and energy products and have blamed the authorities for the situation.
