North Korea on Tuesday denied having sold weapons to Russia and assured that it has no plans to do so in the future days after the U.S. government accused the country of clandestinely supplying weaponry to Russian troops so that it could be used in the war in Ukraine.

This was stated by the deputy director of Foreign Military Affairs of the North Korean Defense Ministry, who described the US version as a «rumor» and a «plot», as reported by the KCNA agency.

«We clarify once again that we have never had «arms deals» with Russia and that we have no plans to do so in the future,» the senior North Korean official said, denying the shipment of artillery shells in «significant» quantities to Russia, according to U.S. intelligence information.

«Lately, the U.S. is persistently spreading an unfounded ‘rumor of arms deals’ between North Korea and Russia in an attempt to turn it into a fait accompli at any cost,» he has recounted.

In this regard, he considered the US «maneuvers» as «part of its hostile attempt to tarnish the image of North Korea in the international arena», invoking the «illegal sanctions resolution» of the UN Security Council against the Asian country.

If the US accusation is true, the North Korean involvement would be added to that of Iran, which would have supplied Russia mainly with kamikaze drones, used by the Russian forces during the wave of attacks launched in recent weeks on urban centers and strategic infrastructures, mainly energy.
