Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, has appealed Monday the appointment of an independent expert to review its business activities after being indicted for alleged fraudulent activities.

The decision comes a week after New York Attorney General Leticia James made such a request, which was granted by the magistrate in charge of the case, New York State Judge Arthur Engoron, as reported by Bloomberg.

The companies’ lawyers have argued that Engoron has «overstepped his bounds» by demanding that an outside watchdog be the one to monitor the Trump Organization as it faces the case filed by James.

Trump’s legal team had already shown its refusal by asserting that the attorney general lacks the legal authority to seek an injunction by appointing an expert witness and pursuing the lawsuit, although that argument has already been rejected by Engoron.

The expert witness nomination preliminarily prohibits Trump’s companies from selling, transferring or disposing of non-cash assets without first providing 14 days’ written notice to the attorney general’s office and the court. It also orders the appointment of a monitor to ensure compliance with the order, ‘Usa Today’ has gathered.

In this regard, the Trump Organization must give the expert witness access to financial statements and «complete and accurate descriptions of the structure and holdings and liquid and illiquid assets of the Trump Organization.»

Nevertheless, the New York attorney general has defended the judge’s decision by stating that it will ensure that Donald Trump and his companies «cannot continue with the extensive fraud» that they have allegedly uncovered.

«No amount of lawsuits, delaying tactics or threats will stop our pursuit of justice,» she added, according to the newspaper.
