The current Republican minority leader in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, said Wednesday that the Republican Party has won enough seats to control the body and stressed that «it is clear» that «they are going to take back the House.»
«I want to thank millions of supporters in this country. It is clear that we are going to take back the House,» he said. «When they wake up tomorrow, we will be in the majority and (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi will be in the minority,» he said, according to Fox News.
McCarthy, who has given for sure the Republican victory even though many seats have not yet been assigned and the race in several of them is not decided, has stressed that «if you believe in freedom, hard work and the American dream, these results show that there is a place for you in the Republican Party».
For her part, Pelosi has refused to concede a Democratic defeat in the House of Representatives and noted that «while many of the votes are still too close to call, it is clear that House members and Democratic candidates are far exceeding expectations across the country.»
The House and Senate, where Democrats currently hold a narrow majority, are up for grabs in these midterm legislative elections, as they are narrowly divided. At the moment, the Republicans are ahead in the House of Representatives, while the Democrats are favored in the Senate.
