A majority of U.S. midterm election voters have at least some confidence that the polls in their state are being conducted fairly and accurately, with no room for voter fraud, according to a CNN poll.

Specifically, nearly eight out of ten voters express some confidence in the midterm, while two out of ten people who have gone to the polls were not very or not at all confident. Also, about half were very confident in the legitimacy of the vote.

However, a higher percentage of voters were concerned about the state of democracy in the country: about seven in ten felt that democracy is somewhat or very threatened.

That percentage is lower among people who believe that democracy in the United States today is at least «somewhat secure,» according to the exit poll conducted by the network.

Still, slightly more than six in ten voters believe that U.S. President Joe Biden legitimately won the presidency in 2020, which means that more than 30 percent of the country does not consider the president to be the rightful occupant of the White House.

This distrust in the legitimacy of the elections has marked the political context in the United States since former President Donald Trump refused to accept Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

In fact, the Democratic Party has used this trump card to its advantage in the campaign for the midterm elections, assuring that if the Republicans win these elections the country’s democracy would be at stake, since a large part of the candidates for the Senate and Congress support Trump’s conspiracy theory.
