U.S. voters turn their backs on candidates who raised the specter of voter fraud

The Republican Party candidates who have campaigned on the specter of possible electoral fraud against them have been the big losers in key races in the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin and will not be in positions responsible for processing the results of the 2024 presidential elections.

On the other hand, in Georgia, Republican Governor Brian Kemp and his Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, who stood up despite Donald Trump’s demand that they not validate his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, have been re-elected.

Elections are still up in the air in Arizona and Nevada, where there are candidates who defended that Trump won in 2020 and who have promised changes in state legislation to make voting more difficult.

In Michigan, 59 percent of voters have supported a reform that essentially rejects Trump’s thesis: it adds nine days to the early voting period, approves funding for early voting polls, makes it more difficult to challenge the certification of results and allows authorities to accept donations.

However, Trump’s defeat denialist candidates have scored significant victories in House and Senate races.

These results are a setback for Trump, who according to sources cited by Bloomberg required all candidates who sought his formal endorsement to affirm that there was fraud in the 2020 election. A total of 225 candidates for governor, attorney general, secretary of state or congressman have denied Joe Biden’s victory or questioned his legitimacy.
