Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Wednesday the formation of four military administrations in Kherson coinciding with the withdrawal of Russian troops from the region announced by Russia.
Zelensky signed a decree establishing four new administrations: in the village of Dolmatovskaya, located in the city of Skadovsk; in Hello Pristan, in Kakhovka and also in Krestovsk, UNIAN news agency reported.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as the Kherson administration have been instructed by the Ukrainian president to establish such agencies on the western bank of the Dnieper River, where the Russian Army has withdrawn.
Tensions have escalated in the region to such an extent that Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of preparing an attack on a hydroelectric power plant dam in the town of New Khakhovka, a key infrastructure in the Kherson region.
Zelenski has long accused Russian forces controlling the dam of laying mines at the facility with the intention of causing catastrophic flooding in communities along the Dnieper River to slow the advance of Kiev forces.
