The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has approved the declaration of emergency in the state of Florida due to the passage of hurricane ‘Nicole’, which began to form last November 7.

In a statement released by the White House, the U.S. President has ordered the assistance of federal funds to supplement state, tribal and local response efforts to address the emergency conditions caused by the storm.

With this statement, Biden has directed the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate «all disaster relief efforts» «that are intended to alleviate the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population».

It will also serve to provide «appropriate assistance» for required emergency measures such as saving lives and protecting property and public health or safety, as well as to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in several dozen counties.

«FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize and provide, at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency,» the White House has detailed in its missive.

Last September, Hurricane Ian left two million people without power and claimed the lives of more than 90, leaving wind gusts of more than 240 kilometers per hour, which led the Biden Administration to approve the disaster declaration.
