Colombian state-owned airline Satena makes first international flight to Venezuela

Colombia and Venezuela materialize bilateral relations after first Satena flight – EMBAJADA DE COLOMBIA EN VENEZUELA

The Colombian state-owned airline Satena made its first international flight to Venezuela on Wednesday, thus materializing the opening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Colombian plane -which took off around 10:00 local time on Wednesday from Bogota’s El Dorado Airport- was welcomed at the International Airport of Maiquetia in Caracas by the Venezuelan Minister of Transport, Ramon Celestino Velasquez Araguayan.

«Today we receive the first flight of the Colombian airline Satena, we augur a successful reactivation of operations between the brotherly peoples of Colombia and Venezuela. Always betting on peace and cultural exchange», expressed Velasquez through his profile on the social network Twitter.

«As of today we decree open skies between Venezuela and Colombia with three weekly flights, today the first flight of the Satena airline arrived at Maiquetía with 50 passengers on board», announced the leader of the ministerial portfolio, before celebrating «the union of the Bolivarian peoples together with President Nicolás Maduro».

The Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, also celebrated the landing in Caracas of the company’s first international flight.

«Finally! Making history,» Benedetti has indicated in a message on Twitter in which he has pointed out that «relations between two brotherly countries continues to strengthen with open borders and open skies.» He also highlighted «the achievement» made «together with the Colombian Minister of Transport, Guillermo Reyes.

Benedetti explained that the Colombian and Venezuelan authorities will work «hand in hand» with the aim of establishing frequencies and air routes that allow to expand air connectivity» between the countries.
