Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced Thursday the production of its first hypersonic ballistic missile and stressed that this projectile has the capability to penetrate «sophisticated» anti-aircraft systems.
The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Aerospace Force, Amir Ali Hayizade, stressed that the missile can maneuver below and above the atmosphere and said it can penetrate all existing missile defense systems.
«I don’t think any technology can be found in the coming decades that will be able to counter it,» he said, while stressing that it is a «breakthrough» for Iran’s military industry, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
Tehran’s announcement comes amid tensions in negotiations to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, damaged by the unilateral US withdrawal from it in 2018, and Western criticism against the country for its «destabilizing» activities in the region.
