Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced that he tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday night in Bali, Indonesia, on the eve of the G20 Summit, after he hosted world leaders this weekend during an ASEAN meeting in his country.

«I’m not sure how I got this virus,» Sen explained after announcing via his Facebook profile that he had contracted the disease.

The Cambodian political leader has indicated that as a precaution he has not attended a dinner with other leaders tonight. In addition, he will not be able to meet with the French and Chinese presidents, Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping, respectively, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Singapore.

«For the safety of the delegates attending the meeting, I decided to let the Cambodian delegates leave (the country). They are all going back to Cambodia,» he wrote.

He has further explained that he would return to Nom Pen on a flight tonight. «I will resume normal schedule except for receiving guests,» the prime minister has assured.

For his part, U.S. President Joe Biden has tested negative for coronavirus on Tuesday, while it is not considered a close contact, the White House has reported.

Hun Sen met for an extended period with Biden on Saturday in Cambodia, first in a bilateral session and then as co-host of a US-ASEAN meeting. Afterward, the two leaders sat side by side during a gala dinner, Bloomberg reports.
