The Democratic Party on Monday snatched the governorship of Arizona from the Republicans after nearly six days of canvassing after Democrat Katie Hobbs prevailed over Republican Kari Lake by a mere 22,000 votes.

With 50.4 percent of the vote, Hobbs announced her victory in the Arizona governor’s race in a statement, arguing that «democracy is worth the wait.»

«Thank you Arizona. I am honored and proud to be your next governor,» the new Arizona governor said in a message on her Twitter account.

The Democratic candidate, who was Arizona’s secretary of state, has highlighted her role as a public servant on the campaign trail, with emphasis on the electoral chaos of the 2020 presidential election following accusations of fraud by Republicans.

Lake, on the other hand, is a Fox 10 anchor who resigned after refusing to give the result of the 2020 elections won by now U.S. President Joe Biden.

The result comes after nearly six days of canvassing in which a failure of printing machines in Maricopa County has delayed the final results.

With this governorship, and after snatching two other states from the Republicans in Maryland and Rhode Island, the Democratic Party has taken control of 24 states against the 25 of the Republicans, all this in the absence of knowing the winner in the governorship of Alaska, which presumably will be for the Republican Party.
