The Polish authorities confirmed Thursday that the two citizens killed by the fall of a Ukrainian missile in the town of Przewodów, bordering Ukraine, will be buried this Saturday with state honors.

This was announced by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Pawel Shefernaker, although he has conditioned such honors to the final decision of the victims’ families, as he told the Polish television channel Polsat News.

«If the families agree, the victims of the Przewodów explosion will have a state funeral,» Shefernaker said.

This is what the local authorities have said, and they have stressed that they will help the victims in the organization of the funeral, confirmed the governor of the Lublin province, Lech Sprawka.

Boguslav V., 62, and Bohdan T., 60, died on Tuesday after being hit by a Ukrainian missile, according to initial reports, which fell on an agricultural enterprise in the town of Przewodów, the PAP agency said.

While Ukrainian authorities were quick to blame Russia for what happened and President Volodimir Zelenski even called for «action», Poland, the United States and the rest of Ukraine’s partners were more cautious and concluded that the missile most «likely» fell outside Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses while trying to stop a Russian attack.

Poland acknowledged Thursday that after the incident it has been receiving «strong pressure» to denounce that the missile was Russian and not Ukrainian, and warned that «this would have set in motion new dynamics in the country and around the world».

This was confirmed by the Polish Deputy Foreign Minister, Arkadiusz Mularczyk, who concluded that «everything points to the fact that it was an unfortunate accident and not an intentional act on the part of Russia».
