The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra, Maria Ubach, participated this Saturday in a round table on digital tools at the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of La Francophonie, on the island of Djerba (Tunisia), and will attend another session scheduled for Sunday.
The International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) brings together 88 countries, including Andorra, and is a «pole of reflection, collaboration and cooperation between French-speaking countries,» reports the Govern in a statement.
This Saturday, the re-election of the secretary general, Louise Mushikiwabo, has been agreed and documents that «mark the future of the organization» have been approved, such as the new strategic framework 2023-2030 and the regulation that modifies the criteria and procedures for membership in the OIF.
Ubach defended that the members who wish to join must «have the will to favor the development and promotion of the use of French», as well as to support the promotion of democracy, rights and freedoms.
The general theme of this summit was connectivity in diversity and, in particular, how digital technology can become a vector of development and solidarity among OIF members.
DJERBA DECLARATION At the meeting, government representatives noted the key role of technology in ensuring effective connectivity between populations as well as the «disparities» in access to connectivity and digital services.
For this reason, the Declaration of Djerba includes «the will to promote access to digital tools, especially among developing countries»; to strengthen digital skills among young people, women and girls; and to facilitate digital and accessible health solutions to contribute to universal health coverage and the promotion of health and well-being.
