Pakistani police have begun the interrogation of the main suspect in the assassination attempt against former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Jan on November 3 in Wazirabad, identified as ‘Navid’, who has claimed that he acted alone.

Sources from the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of the Punjab provincial government, in charge of the interrogation, have explained to Geo TV that ‘Navid’ has confessed that he acted alone because Jan «was deceiving people.»

The suspect tried to hide behind a container after opening fire on the former prime minister but was caught by the crowd. «I have no connection to any political or religious party,» Naveed said, according to Geo TV’s sources.

The former prime minister has now been medically discharged and is continuing his «long march» of protest to the capital. On Saturday, he called on his supporters to join him in Rawalpindi, just 15 kilometers south of Islamabad, on November 26.

Jan, who in April became the first Pakistani president to be ousted in a no-confidence motion, was disqualified at the end of October by the electoral commission for not having declared the money from the sale of gifts and presents received from international leaders when he was at the head of the government.

The former prime minister has accused the United States of being behind an international conspiracy against him; accusations that Washington has strongly denied.
