According to a survey conducted by Guarumo, 48.7 percent of Colombians have a favorable image of the country’s president, Gustavo Petro, compared to 45.2 percent who have the opposite opinion.

The study also reveals that 54.5 percent of voters believe that the country is «on the wrong track», compared to 41.1 percent who think the opposite, according to Colombian newspaper ‘El Tiempo’.

Another recent poll by Invamer Poll shows Petro with 56 percent approval and 46 percent rejection. Datexco’s Pulso País study published by W Radio indicated a favorable image of Petro for 54 percent of the population and an unfavorable one for 35 percent.

Previous polls showed an even more generalized positive image of Petro (61 percent for Centro Nacional de Consultoría) and a 49 percent approval for a previous study by Invamer for Noticias Caracol, Blu Radio and ‘El Espectador’.

Although there has been a drop in Petro’s positive perception since he took office on August 7 of this year, for analyst Mauricio Jaramillo, from Universidad del Rosario, he maintains a good percentage and this is due to the pacts reached with different sectors and the management margin he retains.

«Petro still has the support of his followers, but we must not forget that more than 10 million people did not vote for Rodolfo Hernandez, but against Petro», warned analyst Andres Segura.

According to expert Carlos Arias, Colombians are still «seduced by the promise of change» and Petro’s rhetoric, but «there is a discredit that is slowly increasing around the discourse».

«People are still with the ideal of change. It seems to me that several of the government announcements have been well received, people are seeing that President Gustavo Petro is concretizing his agenda for change,» Jaramillo said.
