At least two people have been killed and 16 injured when a car that had been reported stolen caused an accident involving several vehicles in the U.S. city of Chicago on Wednesday night.
The accident occurred at around 5 p.m. local time in the Chatham neighborhood on the south side of the city when the vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction «at a very high rate of speed,» colliding with seven other vehicles.
Upon impact, the car «immediately caught fire,» said Chicago Police Officer David Brown. The occupants of the allegedly stolen vehicle died at the scene, reports CBS.
Among the injured are seven children and nine adults, who have been transported to local hospitals. Of these, at least four people are in serious condition and one is in «very critical» condition, according to ABC Chicago.
Brown reported that the theft of the vehicle was reported hours earlier, in the city of Markham. Authorities reportedly found inside the car a firearm that could be a rifle.
