Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced that his counterparts from the United States and Canada, Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau, will visit Mexico in January to hold the North American Leaders’ Summit, although it was initially planned for December 2022.
López Obrador explained in a press conference that Biden will be in Mexico on January 9 and 10, for a tripartite meeting that will take place in the capital and will be accompanied by bilateral meetings. The Mexican President promised that more details of this summit will be announced in the coming weeks.
It will be Biden’s first visit to Mexico, after he received López Obrador at the White House in July. In recent months, several high-ranking U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have visited the neighboring country.
The last tripartite summit between the three North American countries took place in November 2021, with Biden as president of the United States. López Obrador, on the other hand, has never played the role of host, since the last time there was a meeting of this type in Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto was in charge of the country.
