The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, received his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, on Friday, within the framework of the suspended Pacific Alliance summit due to the absence of the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo.

«If I had to summarize in one word how is the relationship between our peoples and with the government of the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, I would say: brotherhood,» said the Mexican president in his Twitter profile.

For his part, the Colombian president highlighted on the same social network that, thanks to the meeting, the parties have reached «concrete» agreements on «sovereignty, integration, development and migration».

Among all these issues, Petro said the day before that he would discuss with López Obrador the migration of Colombian citizens to Mexico, as well as security, the fight against drug trafficking and climate change, as reported by the newspaper ‘Milenio’.

Petro’s agenda, who is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alvaro Leyva, as well as by other senior officials of his government, also includes a meeting with the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Although the Pacific Alliance summit has been suspended, the presidents of Chile and Ecuador, Gabriel Boric and Guillermo Lasso, respectively, will also hold bilateral meetings with López Obrador in Mexico, as Petro has also done.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced on Thursday that the Summit will be held in Lima, since Castillo has not been given permission to leave Peru, although the date is not known at the moment, according to the newspaper ‘El Comercio’.
