Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal has accused Russia of trying to break the Ukrainian population with the same methods Moscow used in the 1930s, when under the leadership of Iosif Stalin it carried out the so-called Ukrainian Holocaust (Holodomor).

The head of the Ukrainian government thus recalled the so-called genocide and extermination of the Ukrainian people carried out by Soviet Russia between 1932 and 1933 by imposing famine in the European country, resulting in millions of deaths.

«This is how the regime sought to break our resistance and deprive us, Ukrainians, of our identity. After 90 years, the Russian regime wants to break us Ukrainians and our will again through genocide,» Shmigal has denounced on his Telegram channel.

In this line, Shmigal has stressed that «the indomitable and brave Ukrainian people» will rise against the Russian aggression and «will flourish again after the victory», as it did in the past to recover from the atrocities of Stalin’s regime in the 1930s.

«Russia will definitely pay for its crimes. Step by step, we are getting closer to this day,» the Ukrainian head of government said, Ukrinform news agency reported.

Ukraine is paying tribute to the victims of the Holomodor this Saturday with the Remembrance Day, which has been held every year on the fourth Saturday of November since 1998.
