The Colombian Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, announced this Saturday that changes will be made in the direction of the Civil Aeronautics after different allegations of corruption in this entity in charge of control and regulation in the country have been made public.

The high official has explained that Francisco Ospina will take the position and that the resignations of several officials have been requested while the investigation continues. In addition, he shared that they have scheduled a meeting next Monday with the unions to address the matter.

A journalistic investigation by Semana magazine this week revealed the existence of a criminal network that collected millionaire bribes to legalize flight hours and issue licenses to pilots. It states that managers, contractors, controllers, civil servants and firefighters were involved.

The publication denounced that up to 100 names were involved in the scheme to get their hands on public money through specific missions such as turning off radars or parking aircraft at strategic points where they are loaded with cocaine. In addition, their status as civil servants would have allowed them to avoid security controls, according to ‘El Espectador’.
