Authorities in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, announced Sunday that water, electricity and gas supplies will be restored «almost completely» throughout the day, as repair work on the system is in its final stage.

According to the press service of the city’s Military Administration, the load on the power grid has increased, so there will be occasional blackouts this Sunday due to stabilization work, UNIAN news agency reported.

For its part, the state company Ukrenergo has confirmed that as of 11:00 a.m. (local time) this Sunday, electricity producers are covering almost 80 percent of consumption needs nationwide.

In Kiev and other cities affected by the power cuts, the authorities set up emergency points where citizens can plug into a socket, for example to charge their cell phones, or warm up.

The Ukrainian authorities confirmed on Friday to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that their four nuclear power plants were able to reconnect to the general grid after the wave of Russian attacks that even caused a «massive blackout» in neighboring Moldova.

Ukraine’s four nuclear power plants were disconnected from the power grid as a result of the wave of shelling launched on Wednesday by the Russian Armed Forces, according to the Ukrainian operator, which warned that the Zaporiyia plant was operating with diesel generators.
