Argentina rejects the deployment of Kosovar troops in the Malvinas Islands

Minister
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Santiago Cafiero – MINISTERIO DE EXTERIORES DE ARGENTINA

The Argentine Foreign Ministry on Thursday expressed its rejection of the announcement of possible new military exercises by the Kosovo Army in the Malvinas Islands.

The Argentine government has indicated that, should this announcement be carried out, it would constitute «an unjustified show of force and a deliberate departure from the calls of numerous international resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and other international forums that urge both Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume negotiations in order to find a peaceful solution,» a statement from the Ministry said.

Thus, it has added that it also «categorically rejects the alleged character of ‘peace mission’ that it would pretend to give to the referred military activity as totally unjustified».

The portfolio headed by Minister Santiago Cafiero has criticized that the sending of up to seven members of the Security Forces, within the framework of an agreement for the incorporation of Kosovar personnel in the British Army, contravenes UN resolutions which urge Argentina and the United Kingdom to refrain from taking unilateral decisions.

The Ministry issued this statement after the media announced the decision of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo to send a group of Kosovar-Albanian soldiers to the Falklands as a «peace support mission», reports the Télam news agency.

In this regard, the office has remarked that Argentina does not recognize Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence in 2008.
