National Police officers are analyzing the suspicious package received this Friday at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid to analyze if it contains traces of blood, after ruling out the presence of explosive elements inside.

Sources of the Ministry of the Interior have detailed that, after 14.00 hours of this Friday, the security filter of the embassy has detected a suspicious shipment, after which the members of the National Police who were in security work outside the embassy have immediately vacated the building and have moved to the place the technicians of the TEDAX.

The inspection of the package was negative for explosives but the National Police are carrying out a «more exhaustive» analysis to determine if it contains traces of blood, in line with other packages received in Ukrainian embassies in other countries.

The same sources indicate that the fact that the postage on the package is not Spanish, together with its characteristics, could link it to packages intercepted in other Ukrainian embassies and consular offices in different European countries.

SECOND SENDING TO THE EMBASSY This is the same official headquarters that already received last Wednesday another package with pyrotechnic material, slightly injuring an employee of the legation when he went to open it.

Interior had so far confirmed six other packages with pyrotechnic material with a mechanism that causes a «sudden flame deflagration» when opened. The first of these was sent on November 24 to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. The National Court has taken over the investigation.

The Ukrainian government said Friday that in recent days «bloody packages» with animal eyes have arrived at the country’s embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Italy, and that suspicious shipments have also been recorded at the country’s consulates in Poland, the Czech Republic and Italy.

«The packages themselves were wet with a distinctive smelling liquid and had a certain stench. We are studying the meaning of these messages,» Oleg Nikolenko, a spokesman for the ministry, said in a statement.
