The governor of the Mexican state of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, announced Friday that he has designed a proposal for «administrative restructuring» that will save more than 100 million pesos a year (4.9 million euros) and align with the austerity guidelines of the federal government of his party colleague Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).

To achieve this, he will eliminate duplicity of functions and «unnecessary» areas or spaces created «exclusively for the payment of political favors», as reported by ‘El Universal’, in order to not only reduce expenses, but also «eradicate privileges and eliminate the luxuries of the traditional political class».

Jara Cruz has denounced that when he took office in June, he inherited a debt of 20,600 million pesos (1,008 million euros) from the governments of Ulises Ruis Ortiz (former PRI member) and Gabino Cué Monteagudo (United for Peace and Progress).

«In terms of public debt, Ulises Ruiz inherited to Gabino 6,000 million pesos (294 million euros) Gabino increased it to 15,594 million (763 million euros) and now we are learning that the debt has increased to more than 20,600 million pesos, that is very unpleasant and we cannot continue to allow it.»

Furthermore, he has based this proposal on the «example and guidelines» of AMLO’s federal government and has accused the previous administration of «trying to deceive the Oaxacan people with unfinished works» which he has described as «beautiful shells» and of «inheriting» thousands of positions».
