The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, confirmed on Sunday that three people are dead and 20 are missing after a landslide in Pueblo Rico, Risaralda.
Petro said that «since very early in the morning» Colombian authorities have «made every possible effort to rescue the buried people alive», while he reported that nine people rescued are safe.
«It is estimated that there are more than 20 people still to be found. It is a tragedy,» he has indicated through his profile on the social network Twitter.
The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) of the Latin American country has indicated that the first earth movement was recorded at kilometer 13 of the La Cabaña sector, in Pueblo Rico.
«Apparently there have been two additional earth movements and it is still raining, which hinders rescue efforts,» said the agency, which added that the emergency trapped about thirty passengers of a bus and a motorcycle.
In addition, 70 units of the Colombian Fire Department are supporting the rescue work in which municipal and regional teams are involved, as well as the Police and the Red Cross.
