Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin was cremated Monday morning at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing, on the eve of the funeral scheduled for Tuesday, when the entire nation is expected to observe three minutes of silence.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other senior officials visited the People’s Liberation Army General Hospital in Beijing to pay tribute to Jiang, where his remains were laid to rest, and to convey their condolences to his widow, Wang Yeping, and other relatives, reports the Chinese news agency Xinhua. Former Chinese President Hu Jintao also paid his respects.
Xi and other leaders accompanied Jiang’s remains to the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery, where he was cremated.
This Tuesday, all of China will pay tribute to the former president with three minutes of silence starting at 10:00 a.m. and there will be a ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
