The Russian Armed Forces launched a new wave of attacks on several regions of Ukraine on Monday, with a battery of missiles that have left at least two dead in the region of Zaporiyia and which, according to the president, Volodimir Zelenski, have been «mostly» shot down.
The president praised the effectiveness of the anti-aircraft defense systems, in a short video in which he explained that the authorities are already working to restore the electricity supply in all those areas that may have suffered outages during the last hours.
Among the affected areas would be the capital, Kiev, where the mayor, Vitali Klitschko, has urged the population to stay in shelters. Klitschko has assured on Telegram that many people have gone down to the subway to protect themselves against possible bombings.
On the other hand, the Presidency has reported at least two dead and as many wounded in the Zaporiyia region, where several houses have been destroyed, and attacks have also been reported in other areas such as Odessa, Cherkassy, Kharkov, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava.
Again, the authorities have assumed that the attacks are targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as a priority, resulting in widespread power outages. Ukrainian state-owned electricity operator Ukrenergo reported on Monday that the country has registered a new widespread power outage in a situation that «remains complicated» for the population in the midst of the Russian invasion.
