The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, went out to celebrate Tuesday in the streets of Rabat the historic victory of his country against Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar.
The monarch was seen wearing a Moroccan national team jersey as he drove through the streets of Rabat in a vehicle, which was escorted by security agents, according to a video published by the Moroccan news portal Le Desk.
Mohamed VI has called the president of the federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, as well as the coach, Walid Regragui, to congratulate them on the victory, with which for the first time in its history Morocco manages to pass to the quarterfinals of a World Cup, reports MAP agency.
The monarch celebrated «the historic performance of the members of the national team, who have lived up to the expectations and aspirations» of the Moroccan people and asked them to «stay the course in this competition», in which they will face Portugal this Saturday.
After neither team was able to break the scoreless tie for 120 minutes, the match had to be decided by the eleven meters, where the Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was the national hero, saving up to three penalties to the Spanish national team.
