A group of protesters on Tuesday blocked the passage of the vehicle of Russia’s ambassador to Bulgaria, Eleonora Mitrofanova, near a church where a religious ceremony was taking place.
Mitrofanova herself pointed out that she had attended the St. Nicholas church to participate in a religious service and confirmed that the situation did not pose a serious threat to her physical integrity.
«The church was blocked. There were Police, but I didn’t find it all very threatening. I went to another entrance and called the driver, but he told me that they had blocked the vehicle, that the demonstrators would not let him pass,» he explained.
However, he has confirmed that the situation has normalized and that «everything is fine». «We called another car and then they let me pass so that I could return to the embassy, he said in statements to Russia 24 television channel.
In this regard, he explained that in Bulgaria there is a «Ukrainian community» that tries to organize periodic protests and «provocations» in front of the Embassy or the nearby church.
