A Manhattan jury has convicted two Trump Organization companies — Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp. — of multiple counts of tax fraud and document forgery in a case involving a 15-year scheme to cheat authorities out of taxes.
«Trump Corp and Trump Payroll Corp got away with a scheme that gave top executives lavish benefits and compensation while intentionally hiding their profits from tax authorities to avoid paying taxes,» Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has stressed.
Although Donald Trump and his family have not been charged in this particular case, prosecutors have insisted during the trial on emphasizing how the former president of the United States would have benefited from this corrupt scheme.
The sentence, which is expected in January, could result in a penalty of up to 1.61 million dollars. Although the company is not at risk of being dismantled as there is no legislation in this regard in the state of New York, it could be affected when it comes to operating and financing, explains CNN.
This verdict comes as former President Trump faces several investigations and prosecutions, including others related to the tax maneuvers of his business emporium, as well as those related to the illegal handling of classified documents and material once he left the White House and his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.
