The death toll from an attack against a military base in Cauca has risen to six military personnel, leaving eight wounded, including one civilian.
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has arrived this Tuesday to the rural area of Cauca where military personnel have been attacked, where he has convened an Extraordinary Security Council to review the public order situation. «Peace is the supreme good of the nation», he has indicated.
Petro accused this Tuesday the ‘Jaime Martinez’ column of the dissidents of the defunct FARC guerrillas of the ambush that has killed six soldiers and left eight others wounded in the Cauca municipality of Buenos Aires (southwest).
The attack took place in the village of Munchique, where this column of FARC dissidents is known to operate. The soldiers were surprised by the throwing of grenades and improvised explosives, known as tatucos, reported RCN radio station.
This is the second attack against security forces agents in a few days in the region. Last weekend a non-commissioned officer and two soldiers were killed in clashes.
Questioned about the possibility of establishing a dialogue with this armed organization, Petro remarked that the only process that currently exists in this sense is the one being carried out with the guerrilla of the National Liberation Army (ELN), not with the FARC dissidents, with whom only «one possibility has been discussed».
