The Ukrainian Armed Forces claimed Wednesday to have shot down more than a dozen Iranian-made drones used by Russia as part of its offensive unleashed on February 24 under an invasion order given by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«During the night of December 6-7, 2022, after a three-week pause, Russian occupying forces again attacked Ukraine with ‘Shahed’ kamikaze drones,» the Ukrainian Air Force has said via its Telegram account. «A total of fourteen devices were detected, arriving approximately in southeast direction,» it has detailed.
Thus, it has indicated that «the air defense units of the Eastern Command destroyed eleven ‘Shahed’ and three other drones in the eastern direction were shot down by the air defense of the Ground Forces,» before adding that «one ‘Orlan-10’ drone and two other enemy drones of a type to be specified.»
He also stressed that «over the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces have carried out 22 bombings against areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, as well as four bombings against positions of the enemy’s anti-aircraft missile systems».
For his part, the governor of the Zaporiyia region, Oleksander Staruj, has denounced that the hands three people, including a teenager, have been wounded during the last hours in Russian missile and drone attacks. «The enemy has attacked two communities in the Zaporiyia district with drones and ‘S-300’ missiles,» he said.
«In one of the villages, two houses have been destroyed and eight others have been damaged,» he has noted, before adding that in the second one «one house has been destroyed and ten have been wounded.» «There could have been many more casualties and destruction if the Defense Forces had not shot down half a dozen drones,» he concluded.
