The coalition that elected President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has filed with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) two complaints against Jair Bolsonaro, his sons Flávio and Eduardo and several of his allies, including Walter Braga Netto, for alleged crimes of abuse of political power during the campaign.
The purpose of these lawsuits is to sanction them so that they are ineligible for the next elections and that those who won a seat in these past elections have their mandate revoked.
In one of these complaints, Lula’s allies have denounced Bolsonaro and his allies for misuse of the media for using them to undermine the rule of law and attack the Brazilian electoral system, one of the objectives of the still president and his associates not only during the campaign but even months before it officially began.
Among those singled out are Bolsonaro’s vice president, former Defense Minister Bragga Neto, his two sons and some senators and deputies such as Nikolas Ferreira, or Carla Zambelli, the woman who threatened Lula’s voters with a gun on the eve of the second round of the elections.
«It is possible to verify that Jair Bolsonaro used his status as president of Brazil (…) to promote repeated attacks on the security of the electronic ballot boxes, with the dissemination of the false idea that (…) they are fraudulent», says the lawsuit, which also asks that the case be supported by the evidence collected in the case of the ‘fake news’ that is being handled by the Supreme Court.
In the other lawsuit, they denounce Bolsonaro and Braga Netto of «granting a package of aid with the aim of winning votes and influencing the election of voters», releasing public resources for social programs and offering advantages and promotions to sectors aligned with him.
