The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, has shown this Wednesday his rejection to the fact that the experts who are part of the constituent process do so ‘ad honorem’, that is, only for the prestige and without receiving economic remuneration in return.

As highlighted by the Chilean president in his official profile on the social network Twitter, it is necessary that all those who participate in the process receive a consideration in order to ensure that their work is «totally transparent».

In this way, Boric has rejected the proposal made on Tuesday by the president of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, Vlado Mirosevic, as reported by the Chilean newspaper ‘El Mercurio’.

«The remuneration of public service is an essential condition of democracy. If not, only the rich or those who have patrons could exercise it. We will make sure of that», reiterated President Boric.

Mirosevic pointed on Tuesday to the possibility that the participants in the constituent process would do so without receiving remuneration, since they should be people who «have an unconditional commitment to the country».

The president of the Chamber of Deputies appealed to «those experts who are at home», and asked them to be «available to serve the homeland in such an important moment, where the rules of the common game must be set and democracy must be deepened».

These words of Mirosevic have also been rejected by the President of the Senate, Alvaro Elizalde, who has insisted that these conditions are not those agreed by the political forces in the agreement that facilitated the restart of the constituent process after the failure of the constitutional referendum at the beginning of September.
