Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski landed on Wednesday outside Washington, in the United States, on what is his first trip to a foreign country since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.
Zelenski traveled by train to Rzeszow, Poland, which is near the Ukrainian border, and then boarded a U.S. Air Force plane that landed at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington shortly after noon, The Hill reported.
As confirmed by the White House, Biden is scheduled to welcome Zelenski at the presidential residence at 2 p.m. (six hours later in mainland Spain), followed by a bilateral meeting and a media appearance two hours later.
Later, at around 6:15 p.m. (after midnight on the Spanish mainland), Zelenski will arrive at the U.S. Capitol to address a joint meeting of the Senate and the House of Representatives an hour later.
The visit, which has not been finalized until the last minute and has been kept secret for security reasons, coincides with the Biden Administration’s announcement to provide Ukraine with a military aid package including Patriot missiles.
