White House accuses Texas governor of endangering migrants’ lives

The White House on Sunday accused Texas Governor Greg Abbott of endangering the lives of migrants after chartered buses arrived at the door of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ official residence.

«Governor Abbott abandoned children on the side of the road in freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve without coordinating with any federal or local authorities,» criticized a White House spokesman, Abdullah Hasan, as reported by CNN.

The Biden Administration spokesman said the president is «willing to work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, on real solutions, such as comprehensive immigration reform and border security measures.»

«But these political games accomplish nothing and only put lives in danger,» he criticized, calling the measure «cruel, dangerous and shameful.»

At least three buses with migrants — from Ecuador, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Peru and Colombia — arrived this Saturday at the vice president’s residence. In September Abbott also sent two buses with migrants to Harris’ residence.

In addition, other Republican governors have transferred migrants to cities governed by Democrats in different parts of the country in recent months.

The US Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, which brought migrants to a nearby church for assistance, criticized that «this is not new, it has been going on for eight months.»

This measure, moreover, comes at a time when the United States has experienced this week a winter storm characterized by heavy snowfalls, winds and minimum temperatures, which has caused the death of dozens of people -more than thirty so far- and has left thousands of neighbors without electricity, coinciding with the Christmas celebrations.
